Catalan Kristallnacht

We only knew Catalonia existed because of George Orwell.

We had no idea Catalonia had dreams of independence.

We had no idea Catalonia was going to hold a referendum on same.

We had no idea Madrid would be stupid enough to flood the country with police to stop said referendum.

We had not idea those police would be stupid enough to recreate Kristallnacht on CNN.

Looks like a bunch of fascist thugs beating up guys who run into burning buildings to save people. Not a good look, Spain. Not a good look.

So about half the countries' five million or so voters managed to make it to the polling booth. Si on independence won 92% of the vote.

Our understanding is that the governor and parliament of Catalonia will be declaring independence on Monday.

Can you blame them?
